Andrea Baruffi

Bio

Andrea was born in Lizzano in Belvedere (BO) in 1949. He attended the Liceo Artistico in Bologna and graduated in Architecture in Florence in 1975. In 1977 he decided to move to the United States and immediately received considerable support for his work as an illustrator for the major New York newspapers and magazines. He collaborates with the New York Times, Daily News, Newsweek, Time, Business Week, Fortune and with the most important American advertising agencies such as Young & Rubicam, Gray Advertising, Ogilvy & Mather, J. Walter Thompson. He is responsible for the National Campaign for Artemide of America and Blue Cross Blue Shield (Health Insurance Co.). In 1985 he obtained the Art Direction Award for the Dover Corporation Annual Report. His qualities as a graphic designer and illustrator and his creativity in advertising graphics give him international fame. Since 1991 he has also used digital images for his creations.

Curriculum

Since 1993 he has devoted himself intensely to painting and par-tecipa to numerous exhibitions and fairs of contemporary art. The pictorial research of Andrea Baruffi is inspired by the atmosphere of William Hopper, with an elegantly ironic and surreal note that makes it unmistakable. Among the most significant appearances in the European artistic field, the personal exhibitions at Gubbio (Palazzo dei Consoli), Bologna (L’Ariete arte-contemporanea), Milan (Silbernagl Undergallery) and the partecipations at Artissima Torino, Miart Milano, Museum Parma, St ‘ Art Strasbourg (F), Lineart Gent (B), Holland Art Fair Den Haag (NL), ArtWien Vienna (A). In 2002 he made two major pictorial cycles and graphs for the new headquarters of the Department of Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Hospital S. Orsola of Bologna and the Complesso Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza created by San Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo. Andrea Baruffi was born in Lizzano in Belvedere, Italy in 1949. He attended the High School of Art in Bologna and went on to earn a degree in Architecture in Florence in1975. Later in 1977 he moved to the U.S.A. New York, Newspaper and Magazines, like The New York Times, Daily News, Newsweek, Time, Business Week, Fortune and the most important Advertising agencies in America, like Young and Rubicam, Gray Advertising, ogilvy and Mather, JW Thompson. He received Awards for the Dover Corp. Annual Report, The Ryder Corporation as well as the national campaign for Artemide USA and the Blue Cross Blue Shield (Health Insurance Co.). His qualities as a graphic designer and illustrator, along with his creativity in Advertising, secured him international notoriety. In 1991 he started using digital imaging in his work and from 1993 he started devoting himself very intensively to painting and has participated in many art shows and contemporary art exhibitions. Andrea Baruffi’s pictoreal art research is inspired by Edward Hopper’s atmosphere, with a surreal and ironic elegance, which makes his work unmistakable. Baruffi’s paintings were displayed, as a one man show, in the following exhibitions: Gubbio (Palazzo dei Consoli), Bologna (L’Aries artecontemporanea), Mi-lano (Silbernagl Undergallery), Venice (Galleria Santo Stefano). He has participated in European art exhibitions like: Artissima (Turin), Miart (Milan), Museum (Parma), St’Art Strasbourg (F), Lineart Gent (B), Holland Art Fair Den Haag (NL), ArtWien Vienna ( TO). And Complexity of Cardiology and Cardiatic Surgery for the Padiatric Dept. of S. Orsola Hospital (Bologna), and Complesso Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza created by Saint Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo.
